INFO FROM USA TODAY ARTICLE - Work (work, work, work, work) and Rihanna will help you pay for college.
That’s right. The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter has announced a global scholarship program through her Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF), which will award scholarships to international and U.S. students going to college in the U.S.
“To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor,” says Rihanna. “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it.  I am thrilled to be able to do this.”
In order to be eligible, applicants must be residents of Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica, or the U.S., and have already been accepted into a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the 2016-2017 year.
The scholarship is based on need and the number of students will vary, but the goal is to accept as many students as possible, according to the announcement. Scholarships granted will range from $5,000 to $50,000 and may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.
Applications for the full-tuition grant are open now through June 10, 2016. A committee will screen 50 finalists based on academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience and a personal essay, and the scholarship winners will be announced by August, 2016.
According to its website, Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty founded the CLF in 2012 to honor her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite, and grants from the organization are used to fund international programs with particular focus on health, education, arts and culture.
All details and eligibility criteria can be found at www.claralionelfoundation.org.

$500 for 3 Week U of Ill Bus School-Emerging Leaders Summer Program Deadline Extended to May 15

One of our efamily members son is attending and is looking for some friends to join. Evan did this program - it was great!

Donna
Financial Aid is available!  It is not often programs like this are still available for the summer!
The participants visit corporations that have included Google, Price Waterhouse, BP, Price Waterhouse, GCM Grosvenor (an asset management firm based in Chicago -- google this company and you will be amazed!) and KPMG. The corporation visits are on Fridays and from Monday through Thursdays the students attend sessions/class modules on business concepts such as accounting, marketing, etc.  The kids also work in groups on a Capstone project which they present at the end of the leadership camp. In addition, the University of Illinois Career Center  comes to the  business school to conduct workshops with the students that include mock interviews, resume writing, etc.  The kids are given passes to the university's athletic center, swimming pools etc. so if your student is an athlete they can still work out.

The deadline for the program has been extended as the program is striving to reach many qualified minority students.
