Paper and panel submission deadlines have been extended to May 15, 2018 for the 5th World Conference on Remedies to Racial and Ethnic Economic Inequality. Co-hosts are Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo and the University of Minnesota. Conference languages are English, Portuguese, Mandarin and Spanish. Papers on any aspect of racial and ethnic economic inequality are welcome. For more information, abstract submissions, and registration, click here.

SUBTOPICS THAT EMBRACE THE CONFERENCE THEME
· Longer term consequences of persistent poverty and inequality in access to quality health care among low-income, racial and ethnic minority group members.

TAX FREE WEEKEND FOR EMERGENCY SUPPLIES

If you’ve been putting off buying that portable generator or other emergency supplies, the time is now!! Beginning Saturday, April 28th through Monday, April 30th midnight, the State of Texas will not be collecting taxes on the following emergency supplies. So hurry, stock up on supplies. Hurricane season will be here before you can say “Holy swirling sucking eddy of despair, it’s a hurricane knocking on my doorstep.” (Need I remind you what happened with Harvey and Ike? Come on, git-r done.)



Here’s what’s tax-exempt during this weekend:



· Portable generators less than $3,000

· Emergency ladders and hurricane shutters less than $300

· Under $75: Axes, batteries, can openers (nonelectric), CO detectors, coolers & ice chests, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, anchor/tie-down kits, hatchets, reusable/artificial ice products, portable self-powered light sources (candles, flashlights, lanterns), mobile phone batteries and phone chargers, radios (portable self-powered including battery-operated), smoke detectors, and tarps and plastic sheeting



Not included in the tax-free weekend:

· Batteries for vehicles, boats, etc.

· Camping stoves, camping supplies, tents

· Chainsaws

· Plywood

· Extension ladders and stepladders

· Repair or replacement parts for emergency preparation supplies

Health Equity Issues Forum hosted by the African American Health Coalition - speakers from the Center for Community Engaged Translational Research

DESCRIPTION
Partnering for Health Equity is a Community Forum to address health equity issues among African Americans to promote National Minority Health and National Minority Cancer Awareness Week. The event will feature a panel of experts that will discuss strategies to achieve health equity, a vendor fair, networking and refreshments. The African American Health Coalition, The Center for Community Engaged Translational Research at MD Anderson Cancer Center and St. Luke The Evangelist Episcopal Church are the sponsors of this free event.
