V&E Seeks Applicants for Scholarship-DEADLINE EXTENDED To April 15th-includes summer internship at V&E!!

DEADLINE EXTENDED: V&E Seeks Applicants for Scholarship
Please note that the scholarship deadline has been extended to Saturday, April 15th. Please pass this along to those whom you have contacted or additional contacts that might be interested. Thank you in advance for your continued encouragement of this wonderful opportunity.Subject: V&E Seeks Applicants for Scholarship
We wanted to make you aware of this great opportunity that the Firm offers to high school students in under-represented racial/ethnic groups. We hope you will pass this along to those you know who might be interested.

Vinson & Elkins Seeks Applicants for Minority College Scholarships
Vinson& Elkins is seeking applicants for its annual scholarships for high performing minority high school seniors in Texas. The scholarships provide each student $10,000 toward his or her college education, an internship opportunity at V&E and LSAT preparatory course reimbursement.
Each year, V&E awards students in under-represented racial/ethnic groups (African-American/Black, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, Native American and Pacific Islander, or Multiracial) with scholarships, which pay $2,500 a year for four years. In addition, the V&E Scholars are offered paying internships at one of V&E’s Texas offices during their college summers, as well as given funds to prepare for law school entrance examinations. To qualify, each student must be a member of one of the racial/ethnic groups mentioned above, have a financial need, a strong academic performance and an interest in becoming a lawyer.
“It’s exciting to see these extraordinary students build relationships and develop the skills to become talented professionals through the V&E Scholars Program,” said Jim Reeder, V&E partner and Scholarship Foundation Chairman. “With this scholarship, we hope to remove barriers to college and career success, so that each student may go on to make an impact in the legal profession and their communities.”
The V&E Scholars Program was founded in 1990 as part of the firm’s effort to increase diversity in the legal profession. To date, the firm has awarded scholarships to 147 high school students from Austin, Dallas and Houston areas.
“The generous scholarship that I received from Vinson & Elkins allowed me to excel in college,” said Jing Jin, current University of Chicago Law School student and 2009 V&E Scholar. “The opportunity to intern at the law firm over the summer was great preparation for law school, and afforded me the opportunity to work in the industry and meet lawyers who continue to be my mentors.”
Scholarship applications are due by April 15th. A selection panel will evaluate all completed applications and announce the scholarship recipients in May.

This phenomenal event will take place at Houston Community College West Loop Center Auditorium located at[G1]  5601 West Loop South Houston, Texas. Queendom Come, Inc. is a non-profit organization with a mission to teach, inspire and motivate girls and women to value their self-worth and virtue by cultivating the Queen within. It is QCI's desire to connect the girls with their inner Power and connect to their Purpose. QCI challenges them to become leaders in their communities, exemplifying the excellent character and positive feminine expression, which ultimately brings success in all areas of their life.
The girls will also learn the science of communication to better relationships; how to increase the energy in their body to accomplish their goals and live a healthier life physically, mentally and emotionally; and how to create a financial and success blueprint that serves them and will create abundance in all areas of their lives. All of these practical skills taught will allow them to overcome obstacles that stop our youth from being their best selves.
The Sister Summit was born out of a need to address gender and culture-specific issues that are plaguing women and girls in our communities. Last year's Sister Summit '16 hosted over 500 high school students from schools such as Worthing High School, MacArthur High School, Wheatly High School, Sharpstown High School, Victory College Prep, The Elevated Places and Good Hope Academy. Sister Summit ’16 was a success, and our students are still talking about the tools they have gained to succeed in life! This will be QCI's 4 th Sister Summit.

Ragtime shared by efamily member in the DC Area

RAGTIME

MARCH 10-MAY 20, 2017  Highly Recommended

BOOK BY TERRENCE MCNALLY, MUSIC BY STEPHEN FLAHERTY, LYRICS BY LYNN AHRENS; BASED ON THE NOVEL RAGTIME BY E.L. DOCTOROW; DIRECTED BY PETER FLYNN

Length: ~2 hours and 45 minutes with one intermission. Recommended for ages 12 and older.

President Kennedy said of a democratic society:
" in it, the highest duty of the writer, the composer, the artist is to remain true to himself and to let the chips fall where they may. In serving his vision of the truth, the artist best serves his nation."

This epic Tony-winning musical depicts three families striving for the American dream at the turn of the 20th century. When the lives of a wealthy white family, a daring Harlem musician and a determined Jewish immigrant intersect, their fates are inextricably bound and profoundly changed.
With an expansive musical score, striking relevancy and a who’s who of 20th-century historical characters, Ragtime confronts both the unbridled optimism and the stark reality of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. BUY TICKETS
