UNCF WALK FOR EDUCATION SEPT 19 2020

STATE DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIP - June 30 1pm CST

Hello Friends,

Please share this virtual opportunity with US State Department with your students and families

It's tomorrow Tuesday, June 30 at 1PM CST

It may open the door to a rewarding future for the students and it's good information for younger students to have in case they decide to pursue a career with the federal government.

Can any alums share with appropriate staff at your alma maters?  Thank you kindly!

Best Regards,

Jayne

The Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) is perfect for students looking for a way to make a real difference in the work of this country, while also gaining job experience and connections. Students can work on projects that advance the work of government on multiple fronts. Projects include helping counter violent extremism, strengthening human rights monitoring, developing virtual programs and many others. VSFS is accommodating and flexible.

Join U.S. Department of State South Region Diplomat in Residence Allen DuBose for information on how you can do a federal internship from dorm rooms to libraries to coffee shops -- or anywhere in the world with a broadband or internet connection -- on a timetable that fits your life.

Mayor Turner Food and Mask Distribution Sunday June 28th

Greetings all please share!

Many thanks to Mayor Sylvester Turner, Starlight MBC - Pastor Jason Meachum along with partners NACC Disaster Relief Services for making it happen by providing the lunches for the police officers, gallons of milk and grocery boxes for the public.

Thank you to the HPD North Division for partnering with Starlight MBC to build community relations with Acres Homes.

We have extended partners to thank as well such as Samaritan’s Feet which will provide drinks to the volunteers.  I am also excited to add another partner, thanks to La’Torria Lemon of Lemon-Lime Light Media, celebrity/comedian “kidpreneur” TJ Boyce is bringing out his famous Boyce Kids Dream Machine ice cream truck.  He and his sister are going to provide free popsicles and ice cream to all the KIDS that come through with their parents. (Note:  ice cream for Kids only) This is going to be the best drive thru pickup we can make it.

We are expecting between 500+ cars because it is a main street.

Volunteers are welcome to assist with this awesome community event.

Lastly we will serve hot lunches to up to 200 HPD Officers.

See you then.

Texas Governor COVID-19 Directive on Hospital Capacity

COVID-19 Update Harris County

COVID-19 UPDATE

Cases and hospitalizations are the worst they have been in the course of this pandemic, with Texas Medical Center warning they may exceed ICU capacity. We strongly urge you to minimize non-essential in-person interactions at this time. Every unnecessary interaction you eliminate is one less chance to contract or spread the virus. Continue wearing a mask that covers the nose and mouth for essential activities in which social distancing may prove difficult.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo issued a new order that commercial entities (i.e. businesses) "must require, at a minimum, that all employees or visitors to the commercial entity’s business premises or other facilities wear face coverings." Additionally, Harris County introduced a color-coded threat level system to make clear the extent of community spread of coronavirus and the steps residents should take to protect themselves and lessen transmission.

If you need to get tested, Houston and Harris County are providing no-cost testing throughout the county. No symptoms are necessary to get tested.

Thank you for continuing to treat COVID-19 with the seriousness it deserves and for acting accordingly to stop the spread and protect our community.
