AKAs Present Carnival of HBCUs -An Educational Enrichment Expo
In partnership with the Fort
Bend Independent School District (FBISD), Mu Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Incorporated presents “Carnival of HBCUs” – An Educational
Enrichment Expo (E3). The event will be hosted on Tuesday, February 21, 2017
from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Thurgood Marshall High School (1220 Buffalo Run,
Missouri City, Texas). The event is FREE and open to the public.
E3 offers an opportunity for
students and parents to connect with representatives from Historically Black
Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), learn more about opportunities available at local
community and trade schools, and participate with hands-on STEAM activities.
Attendees will also have the option to be a part of interactive workshops on
helpful topics, such as The HBCU Experience, Sister2Sister, Brother2Brother,
Parent2Parent, scholarships, STEAM Careers and more.
HBCUs create an ideal
educational environment for students with diverse backgrounds. Spanning the
current and last two centuries, HBCUs have a legacy of providing a strong
cultural, spiritual and academic platform from which students can launch and
fulfill their higher-education goals. For students in the greater Houston area,
there are two HBCUs in the surrounding area, nine located within the state of
Texas, and several HBCU Alumni Associations to help bring awareness to the
educational opportunities available.
E3 is an biannual event that
is part of a global initiative and platform to inspire, support, inform, and
prepare students for college and careers. For more information contact,
Ruthelen Robinson via email at ruthelendrob@yahoo.com.
