PACE is hosting it's first Annual Call to College Conference and College Fair! For students and parents the conference will feature college readiness sessions that will increase attendees' awareness of higher education opportunities. For students, some of the sessions include: Understanding Institution Types, Preparing College Applicaitons, Deciding on a Major and Career, and Getting and Keeping an Athletic Scholarship. Likewise parent sessions will include: Helping Students Transition to College, How to Pay for College, Understanding Career Options, and Models of Success - A Panel of Parents. Additionally, attendees will have lunch and a special presentation from area college students.

More About out Speakers:Dr. Sarah Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Bethune-Cookman University (BCU). During her undergraduate years, Dr. Johnson was noted for her abilities both in the classroom and on the basketball court. As a scholarship student-athlete, she was able to maintain a high grade point average in Mathematics while also contributing to the success of the university’s women’s basketball team as a four-year starter. A natural leader, Dr. Johnson served as team captain for three out of the four years she spent playing Division 1 Collegiate basketball. A year after graduating, Dr. Johnson became a high school math teacher while completing her Master’s degree in Mathematics from Fayetteville State University in 2008. Soon after, she began working on her Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Urban Math Education, at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Known as a firm but fair instructor, Dr. Johnson has built a reputation as a caring professional who educates her students in issues of mathematics and life. Her intellectual and athletic background has helped her to develop a work ethic that motivates both students and colleagues. She is a positive role model and mentor for future leaders.
Rodrick Kennerson-Baty is an electrical engineer at L-3 Communications where he currently serves as an electrical lead for the Big Safari, C-130 program for the Unites States Air Force. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University. Over the course of fifteen years, he has been active in many professional and civic organizations that are geared toward cultural diversity and inspiring young people to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities. As a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and co-coordinator of the Waco Character/College Campus Tour initiative for the past fifteen years, he has been able to help expose over 300 youth to the advantages and opportunities of higher education. Additionally, he has been active within Waco’s religious community as a youth director at Carver Park Baptist Church as well as a member of the marriage enrichment ministry. In his spare time, Rodrick enjoys four wheeling, reading, music, video production, tinkering with home projects, and spending time with his wife Rosalind and two children Zion and Reyna.
Ethan Brisby is a Brazos Valley product, born in Bryan, Texas where he attended Bryan ISD schools in the heart of Aggieland. As an author and teacher, Brisby specializes in youth enrichment programming centered around faith and leadership. He will also share financial literacy strategies with parents; from credit building to investment property ideas. You can expect a power packed session filled with quality information and laughs from this unique-talent. Ethan has been capturing audiences with intelligent insight for more than 15 years.
