The musical "Hamilton" is getting rave reviews from the critics and public ! Hamilton received a record-setting 16 nominations in 13 categories at the Broadway 70th Annual Tony Awards, held on June 12, 2016, ultimately winning 11 total. Rather than making the Founding Fathers in this story of American history white men, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical stipulates that they must be men and women of color — any person of color. Women of color take part in the battle scenes. The producers of “Hamilton” – a rap musical that offers a fresh take on the Founding Fathers -- really did put out a casting call when the show first began production. “Seeking NON-WHITE men and women, ages 20s to 30s, for Broadway and upcoming Tours!” their casting notice read. The NON-WHITE part was in all caps. They were declared racists. So, they wrote "non-white" in lower case..
Also, the kids who attend Hamilton know the soundtrack by heart and so they know the story. Alexander Hamilton was born in the Caribbean to an unwed mother, ages, fights in the Revolutionary war against the Brits in New York as George Washington's right-hand man, goes through scandal cheating on his wife and paid blackmail money to his mistress’ husband to keep sleeping with her, wrote the Federalist papers, becomes the first U.S. treasury secretary of the new nation, helped establish the Coast Guard and the New York Post, has a son and loses the son who dies in a duel, and then Hamilton himself later dies in a duel in 1804 at the age of 47, losing to then sitting U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr, in New Jersey.
To prepare for the performance, the rhythm, the cadence, lesson learned: listen to the soundtrack before going to see the musical. I play the 2-CD soundtrack constantly in my car.......So, it's good to buy (from Amazon) the Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording 2- CD Soundtrack
