Class of 2022 LOT Alumna Wins Scholarship on GMA

Congratulations to recent graduate and Leaders of Tomorrow - Houston Chapter Alum, Anaya Brown, for winning the inaugural 'Write Her Future Scholarship' at the NAACP Convention this past weekend! Anaya was one of only 40 high school young women nationwide who was selected for the $10,000 award, which actress, Lupita Nyong'o, presented on Good Morning America.

UPCOMING 2022-2023 LOT PROGRAM YEAR
The Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) High School Mentoring program, one of Houston's most dynamic high school mentoring programs, will host its second in-person interest meeting for BOTH new and returning Leaders (Students), Coaches, and Mentors on Saturday, July 30th, 2022 at the UH Bauer College of Business. Here are the event details:

  • Event Date: Saturday, July 30th, 2022
  • Leader (Student) Session: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM CST 
  • Coaches Session: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM CST
  • Mentor Session: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST
  • Registration Links: LeadersCoaches, and Mentors

The Local LOT Program begins in September and ends in May of the following year. If you know someone interested in joining the program, please encourage them to attend by sharing this flyer. This meeting is MANDATORY even for returning leaders as we will review guidelines and expectations for the return to an in-person format. The application will only be released to those in attendance, and everyone must reapply each program year.

Come Watch "DC League of SuperPets"

Warner Bros. and their summer film, DC League of Super-Pets, starring DeWayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, will be in theaters on July 29th, 2022. There will be an advanced screening of the film on Tuesday, July 26 at 7:00 p.m. at AMC Gulf Pointe 30 (11801 S. Sam Houston Pkwy E, Houston, TX 77089) and we are excited to share general admission passes (first come, first serve) with our membership! Each pass is valid for four seats at the advance screening.

Chapter Elections Are Coming in August

The Houston Chapter will hold elections during our General Body Meeting on August 11th, 2022. The following positions will be available:

  • President
  • Vice President - Administration
  • Vice President - Operations
  • Corresponding Secretary
  • Recording Secretary
  • Treasurer

Please also note the following:

  • Only members whose dues are paid as of July 31st, 2022, shall be eligible to run and hold positions as officers. 
  • Candidates for President must have served at least one term as a chapter officer or committee co-chair.
  • Only members whose dues were paid as of July 31st, 2022, will be eligible to vote in the election of officers.

We want to announce that we seek candidates for the Public Relations Chair role. The expected time commitment is about 2 hrs/week and consists of the following responsibilities:

PARTNER OPPORTUNITIES
We are looking to hire an experienced Strategy Lead to structure Connective’s client engagements, implement resulting work plans, and solve complex problems at the intersection of nonprofit programs, government services, and philanthropic investments. In this role, the candidate will shape how we work with our partners to address various social service challenges (eviction coordination, disaster home repair, direct financial assistance, etc.). We are also looking to hire a Program Design and Implementation Manager to work on new programs and iterate on existing programs. In this role, the candidate will do hands-on work to enact program plans and solve complex problems at the intersection of nonprofit programs, government services, and philanthropic investments. Program Managers are core to the Connective team. The candidate will shape how we work with community partners to address key social services challenges. Our current programs include eviction prevention, disaster response coordination, quick and efficient financial assistance distribution, and unlocking access to public benefits. Each program manager typically focuses on one or two programs at a time. The candidate will be most successful in this role with prior program management, project management, design management, or strategy experience.
