Your non-profit organization is invited to participate at the Port City Links, Inc. - 12th Annual Health, Education, Science Fair, and Carnival.  This year the celebration will be held on Saturday March 4th, 2017 from 10:30am – 1:30pm (booth set up begins at 10am). This community wide Fair and Carnival will have science, health, education, and summer camp booths as well as FREE Carnival activities such as Rock Climbing Wall, Face Painting, pony rides and more!  The Fair and Carnival will be held at Sunnyside Park, located at 3502 Bellfort, Houston, TX 77051.
                                                
Each year the fair is held in conjunction with the Opening Day Ceremony for South Central Sportz Youth Baseball ages 4-14 (all team names honor the Negro League) events starting at 10am now in its 16th year!   Last year there were over 1000 attendees and more are anticipated this year!

If you sponsor a booth, complimentary lunch is provided for your booth volunteers.

We encourage interactive exhibits, informational games, prizes, health screenings, brochures and “hands on experiments”. The more interactive booths fascinate the youth and parents who attend each year and assure lots of traffic at your booth.

There is no cost to your organization to participate in the Fair

Again, thank you for your consideration of participation at our Health Fair this year. The Third Ward/Sunnyside area is a community where Health, Education, and Science outreach can make a tremendous difference in the lives of children and families in the area.   In previous years, we’ve had typically over 50 booth participants – this year we hope to be the biggest and best ever! Dr. Shannon is a Full Professor of African American Literature, specializing in Dramatic Literature and Criticism at Howard University. She is one of the nation's leading scholars on the life and works of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright August Wilson. Reality Education for Drivers—RED—Program for young drivers (14-24 years old) and their parents or guardians.


Harris Health System Ben Taub Hospital is hosting the Reality Education for Drivers—RED—Program for young drivers (14-24 years old) and their parents or guardians.* This free one day course focuses on driving SECURE (wear your seatbelt!), SILENT (free of distractions like cell phones) and SOBER (no alcohol or drug use while driving).

 

The course includes class discussions, multimedia presentations, and a “behind the scenes” tour of the hospital’s trauma center. There is also a special section for parents, guardians, and other adult influencers in which RED associates share research-based tools that can be used to help teens become safer drivers.

 

All students will receive a Certificate of Completion for community service hours** at the end of the course. Adults will receive a bag of “tools” for helping their young driver.

The class will be held in the 4th Floor Conference Room.

 

Please be aware lunch will not be provided. Participants may purchase lunch or snacks from the hospital's cafeteria or on-site McDonald's.
