Background: The Houston Association of Black Journalists (HABJ) is hosting the NABJ Black Male Media Project . It is an opportunity for journalists and young Black males to discuss how the mainstream media and entertainment business portray Black men.
Mary Benton is a former HABJ President and national board member. The current president is Jerome Solomon, Houston Chronicle sports columnist.
The event is open to all children and adults, in addition to Black males.
However, the topic of discussion is centered on Black males.
Instead of adults lecturing young Black males, the Black Male Media Project will allow young Black males to lecture professional journalists about what they like or dislike about the way the media covers them and their community.
