VOLUNTEERS CHANGE LIVES.
Help a Young Reader Shine. Be a Volunteer Today!
July officially starts the dog days of summer. What better way to spend your days than by volunteering to promote literacy in Houston? Our Connect4Literacy.org volunteer platform opens doors to many different service opportunities this July that contribute to the literacy cause. Find one below and sign up to volunteer today!
Be a point of light like our many Community Partners, Houston Independent School District, Phillips 66, PWC, Target, EOG Resources, Marathon Oil, and JP Morgan Chase. In partnership with Children's Museum of Houston, Houston Area Urban League and Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, these partners will bring an enriched arts, science and literacy curriculum to over 400 students in Houston through a summer reading camp program called Camp Adventure! This partnership has come together to design a balanced Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math curriculum, to ensure volunteers are on hand, and to supply some fundamental provisions to launch successful camps. The two-week long camps will serve children in kindergarten through fifth grade and the camps will include an array of interactive reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking activities for the children. We want to express our gratitude to our partners for all of their time and energy spent planning and coordinating Camp Adventure!.
The first two-week camp will be at Codwell Elementary in Sunnyside and the second camp will be at Atherton Elementary in Fifth Ward. Volunteers are still needed for Atherton Elementary from July 23rd-31st! Volunteers will serve as Junior Counselors and will help assist Lead Counselors with story times, science experiments, and games. There are half-day and full day volunteer opportunities available. To sign-up for a half-day or for more information, email Olivia Lewis at olivia@bushhoustonliteracy.org.
