ABOUT US The City Controller serves as the City's chief financial officer. The Office of the City Controller certifies the availability of funds prior to City Council approval of City commitments, processes and monitors disbursements exceeding one billion dollars annually, invests the City's funds, conducts internal audits of the City's departments and federal grant programs, operates and maintains its financial management system, conducts the sale of public improvement and revenue bonds and produces an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under the guidance of the Division Director or designee, the Student Intern I will assist the assigned division within the Controller’s Office with completing specific tasks and general office functions. The Student Intern I duties will include but are not limited to: • May organize files, retrieve and file documents. • May perform general clerical/receptionist functions (i.e. pick-up, sort, and distribute mail; operate fax machine and copiers; issue visitor passes; handle incoming calls). • May enter information into the computer under well-defined and established procedures. • May type reports and input/retrieve information from a variety of source documents. • May assist with various projects as requested. WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and basic written instructions. May have a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. May require a basic knowledge of a particular subject area. (Individuals may be high school students.) Must be 16 years of age or older. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS No experience required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None. PREFERENCESKEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES - College student
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments.
- Use of appropriate written and verbal language and grammar with minimal errors.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
