Virginia Tech, the leading research university in the Commonwealth of Virginia, welcomes nominations and applications for the Senior Advisor to the President and Vice Provost for Inclusion and Diversity (SA-VPID). The university seeks a dynamic and visionary leader, strategic thinker, relationship builder, and articulate  communicator for this role. This is an exceptional opportunity to work closely with both the university President and the Executive Vice President and Provost to lead a reinvigorated and restructured effort to build a more inclusive and diverse campus community. They will be operating within an exciting new decentralized framework created to enable Virginia Tech to become a national leader in the integration of inclusion and diversity efforts into the regular functions of a university. The Senior Advisor to the President reports directly to the president on policies, programs, services, and current issues that shape and impact the university’s progress on inclusion and diversity. As one of five vice provosts who report to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Vice Provost for Inclusion and Diversity leads and facilitates efforts in Virginia Tech’s distributed model of inclusion and diversity known as InclusiveVT. This person will serve as an advisor, bridge builder, strategic leader and partner, enabling leaders across the institution to identify and execute initiatives to effect lasting institutional change.The SA-VPID has responsibilities for promoting and advocating policies, programs, and services in the university’s colleges, vice presidential divisions, alumni and advancement areas, and extended campus
locations. The position of SA-VPID offers an accomplished and successful educator, motivator, and advocate the opportunity to engage individuals and communities in sustained dialogue and action aimed at promoting inclusive and diverse domestic and international learning and working environments. The SA-VPID leads the integration and implementation of scholarship and inclusion and diversity objectives and works closely with deans, vice presidents, vice provosts, and associate and assistant provosts to achieve the university’s “Plan for a New Horizon.” The successful candidate will have relevant experience in the academic community, either in administration or through scholarship, or from work experiences that demonstrate understanding of issues
inherent to inclusion and diversity within a complex institutional setting. In addition to the ability to lead internally, the Vice Provost will be a thought leader in conversations about inclusion and diversity on the state and national levels. A representative search committee has been convened to conduct the search and to recommend finalists to the President and Executive Vice President and Provost of the university. The university is assisted in the recruitment by the executive search firm, Isaacson, Miller.
