Pass the Word.., NASA High School Aerospace Scholars

  1. High School Aerospace Scholars Application Open
Know any high school juniors passionate about space and science? The High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) application is now open!
HAS is a NASA unique opportunity for Texas juniors who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math, and is no cost to participants. Selected students will participate in an interactive, online course during the school year that culminates in an all-expense-paid trip to NASA's Johnson Space Center in the summer. During the online course, students will create technical drawings, solve math problems and participate in discussion forums with NASA engineers and scientists. During their visit to JSC, students will work with NASA mentors to complete engineering design challenges and plan a mission to Mars.
Please help us spread the word about this awesome opportunity!

Spread the Word—‘Space Week’ at Camp Google

With the theme "Let's Find Out," Google has created four-week-long summer camps for children ages 7 to 10 highlighting the ocean, space, nature and music.

For "Space Week," Google teamed up with NASA to feature a video on the science of space food—which was filmed at JSC with astronaut Don Pettit, Food Lab Systems Manager Vickie Kloeris, YouTube celebrity Michael Stevens and two junior chefs. Kids can view other videos that answer questions like "How do you defy gravity?" and "What are constellations?" and participate in interactive activities and earn space-themed badges.

#CampGoogle can be accessed from virtually anywhere. Parents and teachers can send kids to camp at https://camp.withgoogle.com or straight from www.Google.com, where Space Week is featured today!

NEW COLLEGE DATA to Compare Schools - from the President!

collegescorecard.ed.gov — will allow students and parents to compare schools based on measurements that are important to them. Using the website, for example, a student might search for schools with average annual costs of under $10,000, a graduation rate higher than 75 percent and average salaries after graduation of more than $50,000 per year.

The scorecard will be available to students on mobile phones, the department said.
College search sites, such as ScholarMatch and StartClass, are using the new scorecard data to develop customized searches for students on their websites.

Getty Foundation Accepting Applications for Scholars Grant Program

OBER 1, 2015

The Getty Foundation fulfills the philanthropic mission of the Getty Trust by supporting individuals and institutions committed to advancing the greater understanding and preservation of the visual arts in Los Angeles and around the world. Through strategic grant initiatives, it strengthens art history as a global discipline, promotes the interdisciplinary practice of conservation, increases access to museum and archival collections, and develops current and future leaders in the visual arts. And it carries out this work in collaboration with other Getty programs to ensure that, individually and collectively, they achieve maximum effect.
To advance this mission, the foundation is accepting applications for its Getter Scholar Grants Program from established scholars or writers who have attained distinction in their fields.
Getty Scholars will be in residence at the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa, where they will pursue their own projects free from academic obligations, make use of Getty collections, join their colleagues in a weekly meeting devoted to an annual research theme, and participate in the intellectual life of the Getty. Scholars may be in residence for one of six periods ranging from three to nine months: September to December; January to March; April to June; September to March; January to June; or September to June.
A stipend of up to $65,000 per year will be awarded based on length of stay, need, and salary. The grant also includes an office at the Getty Research Institute or the Getty Villa, research assistance, an apartment in the Getty scholar housing complex, airfare to and from Los Angeles, and healthcare options. These terms apply as of July 2015 and are subject to future changes.
Researchers of all nationalities who are working in the arts, humanities, or social sciences are eligible to apply.
For complete program guidelines and application instructions, visit the Getty Foundation website.
