“The Cold War and the Importance of Race in American Space Exploration” Great Book!

I have heard one of the speakers (Steven Moss) on the African Americans in the Space Program -- astronauts from the 60s - he talks about the Civil Rights movement in Houston, including Rev. Lawson and so many others...and the impact NASA had on this in Houston...I have his book!

9:00 AM Saturday, April 9  at LSC-Kingwood

9:00 – 10:15 “The Cold War and the Importance of Race in American Space Exploration” – SCC 3

Authors Monique Laney and Steven Moss analyze the American space program from unique perspectives, ones that Houston audiences, as the home of NASA, will find especially intriguing. Laney’s book, German Rocketeers in the Heart of Dixie: Making Sense of the Nazi Past during the Civil Rights Era, examines how Huntsville, Alabama, dealt with former Nazis living in their midst after World War II, while Moss’ work, We Could Not Fail: The First African Americans in the Space Program, takes a close look at African American space workers whose stories illustrate the role of NASA and the space program played in promoting civil rights. Come listen to a captivating discussion with these two authors.
