Diabetes Awareness & Wellness "Game Time" Men die at higher rates than Women!

The Diabetes Awareness & Wellness Network (DAWN) announces “Game Time”, a men’s only health forum to be held at the DAWN center located at the Third Ward Multi-service center, 3611 Ennis Street, Houston, Texas, 77004. The event will take place from 6pm-8pm.
Did you know? The Men's Health Network reports that men die at higher rates than women from the top 10 causes of death - heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), flu, diabetes, suicide, kidney disease, chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. However, a national survey found that women were three times more likely to see a doctor on a regular basis than men. (No wonder women are outliving men). Fellas, it’s time to GET IN THE GAME!
“Game Time” will be free and open to the public. During this event, community leaders and healthcare professionals will discuss common issues and concerns regarding men’s health. There will be a panel discussion, special guest speakers, finger foods and refreshments, door prizes, and a grand prize raffle give-a-way.
For more information about the DAWN program or to RSVP to “Game Time” Men’s Health Forum, please call 832-393-4055 or submit your information on the DAWN webpage at www.houstontx.gov/dawncenter. You can also search the event at Eventbrite.com and register for “Game Time” there.
The DAWN center, in operation since 2013, is a Houston Health Department program that provides diabetes self-management education to individuals with pre-diabetes or diabetes. The DAWN center is not a clinic and does not provide medical services. Instead, the DAWN program focuses on complementing clinical services by offering programming based in health promotion and behavior change. Services include evidence-based education classes or series, nutrition education, cooking classes, physical activity and personal trainer. The DAWN center also participants in community outreach events, promoting awareness of diabetes, distributing educational information and materials, and conducting risk assessment testing.
