Your Weekly News & Updates
Welcome to our weekly news digest!
This week's edition contains valuable resources to help position
your business for growth.

After weeks of closed door meetings, the Senate unveiled its new healthcare plan - a plan that cuts funding for Medicaid and Planned Parenthood, allows insurance companies to eliminate essential care benefits like maternity care and substance abuse treatment, and eliminates healthcare subsidies for working families. This is a disaster for the American people and our economy. It is a healthcare bill that gives massive tax breaks to drug companies, insurance companies, and the wealthy at the expense of low and middle-income families.

This Senate Bill is opposed by the AARP, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the American Medical Association, the American Nurses Association, and the American Cancer Society, among others

Last attempt before Senate goes back to session!

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS TO SAFEGUARD ASTRONAUT HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE DURING DEEP SPACE EXPLORATION

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY:  POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS TO SAFEGUARD ASTRONAUT HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE DURING DEEP SPACE EXPLORATION

NSPIRES Solicitation Number: TRIRFA1701
Release Date: May 26, 2017
Proposal Due Date: July 31, 2017 (~4 weeks left!)

The Translational Research Institute (TRI) has been tasked by NASA to identify and fund groundbreaking research and development that can reduce the risks to the health and performance of humans on space exploration missions. TRI is also committed to developing a robust and well-trained workforce that can enable NASA’s missions.  TRI is releasing a funding opportunity that seeks to support the nation’s brightest postdoctoral fellows in performing research related to human space flight. Two-year fellowships are available in any United States (U.S.) laboratory carrying out biomedical research. The full announcement is available at (https://tinyurl.com/TRI-RFA-17-01).

Fellowships enable young scientists to train as independent investigators with their own research projects while continuing to learn from experienced faculty mentors. The program serves as a mechanism to strengthen the high-tech workforce of the future.

Applicants must submit research proposals together with an identified mentor and institution. A listing of independent investigators with existing research grant support who are seeking postdoctoral applicants can be found on the FAQ at the website above. Prospective mentors may also apply directly with their postdoctoral candidate without being listed in the FAQ document. Selected applicants will receive a stipend for salary support, allowance for health insurance, and travel funds for related scientific meetings. An optional, competitive third year of support is possible. Funds to support the research itself must be supplied by the mentor.

All categories of U.S. institutions are eligible to submit proposals (universities, federal government laboratories, the private sector, and state and local government laboratories).

Full proposals submitted through nspires.nasaprs.com will be due on July 31, 2017. Technical questions should be directed to the NSPIRES help desk at NSPIRES-help@nasaprs.com or TRI@nasaprs.com. Programmatic or scientific questions may be directed to Dr. Dorit Donoviel, TRI Interim Director at donoviel@bcm.edu.

-----------------------
The Translational Research Institute (TRI) is funded by a cooperative agreement from NASA to Baylor College of Medicine with consortium partners California Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Institute’s mission is to lead a national effort in translating cutting-edge, emerging terrestrial research into applied space flight and to support human risk-mitigation for exploration missions beyond low Earth orbit.

The mission of Houston Med-Dent is to raise awareness and participation in dental and health initiatives to the underserved population and low-income communities. Our upcoming Dental Festival is one of the organization’s largest FREE community events that will service inner city families with dental and health screenings, back to school supplies for the youth, along with lots of food, fun, and entertainment for the entire family. We are looking to serve more than 500+ people on July 22, 2017 with this grand event. Where do you come in? The Dentistry of Dr. Ka-Ron Wade and Houston Medi-Dent Mobile Health Corporation would like to ask you to join in our efforts with your financial support as a Corporate Sponsor.

We would love for you to take part! This year our goal is to raise $100,000. All money raised will be used to provide back to school supplies to all youth in attendance and free dental/health specific services, as well as towards our goal of obtaining a mobile dental unit. Your generosity will allow us to continue our work; making a difference in the lives of those who truly need it most. Your contribution is tax-deductible.

You may complete your sponsorship online at http://dentalfesthouston.com/ under Partner Registration. Please complete this by July 5, 2017.

Also, all vendors are welcome! If you are a non-profit agency, this event registration is waived. Please submit your tax-deduction letter in support with your registration, and register online!
