Beat the Heat Congresswoman Lee sponsors program providing Air Conditioners for those in Need

Letter from Congresswoman Lee - 2017 “BEAT THE HEAT” PROGRAM
CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE
THE 18TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
June 2017-August 2017
(Various Locations)
On behalf of the constituents of the 18th Congressional District of
Texas, I along with members of the Texas Carpenters Regional Council,
Carpenters Local Union 551, Victor Washington and Washington & Son Air
Conditioning, Haley Ahart-Keiffer, Mrs. Houston International, local nonprofit
organizations and private businesses, have collaborated to provide air
conditioners to senior citizens, veterans and the disabled in the greater
Houston area, in the District’s Annual “Beat The Heat” Program.
For years we have worked to ensure that the most vulnerable members
of our community receive air conditioners. We should never risk the lives of
seniors and children who are most at risk for health-related complications.
With the senior population becoming increasingly diverse, these
demographics will have profound impacts on the demand for social services,
especially the need for adequate cooling. This is an opportunity to give back
to those have given so much to the current and future generations.
