This morning as I was on the NSBE site (I found a lot of information that would benefit pre-college - even elementary students and parents. The jobs of the future are STEM - every job is becoming more and more automated, electronic, STEM focused, data analytics, etc. PARENTS, STUDENTS, Professionals go to https://www.nsbe.org/home.aspx find jobs if you are student or STEM professional, register for scholarships, and Conference will be in San Antonio - GREAT Time to Join. For students in elementary it's only $5 to join! You can get an account for FREE and see the info on the site! Parents start early getting your kids comfortable with STEM!
I was on the site as our Port City Links Chapter has 3 NSBEJR chapters at 3 schools - Young Women's College Prep (award winning chapter middle and high school girls), BlueRidge elementary (Pearland), and Gregg Elementary (HISD). We also volunteer at Codwell Elementary and Young Elementary. Volunteers and partners include NASA's African American Employee Resource Group, Worley Corporation, Society of Women Engineers and the Houston Area Urban League. We conduct Science Fairs, STEM speakers from MAD Science to TSU and PV undergrads, grad students and Professors presentations to the students as well as field trips to NASA. Every time we volunteer we see the impact on these students - some areas have large homeless populations (students living in shelters) having breakfast, lunch and dinner at the schools - can you give an hour a week, a month, or have a partnership to bring in volunteers or sponsors - let me know!
