Calling all 3rd Ward RESIDENTS!! Join us Tuesday, November 12th, at 6:00 pm for our Civic Club meeting to learn more about the Community Benefits Agreement with Rice Management Company, and the Houston Coalition for Equitable Development Without Displacement (HCEDD).
Rice University is in the process of developing the Sears Building and 16 acres around Houston’s Metro Wheeler Station into the Houston Innovation District to focus on technology and entrepreneurship. Residents are concerned that this development is going to negatively impact the Third Ward community and African American and Latino neighborhoods across Houston.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the purpose, process, and proposed contents of the Community Benefits Agreement, which includes the following issues:
Preservation
Affordable housing
Loans and commercial space for Black and minority-owned business
First source hiring for permanent jobs paying a living wage with benefits
Access to quality, affordable groceries
Be sure to share on Facebook and register on Eventbrite.
The HCEDD is a coalition of community members, churches, racial justice, and fair housing advocacy groups, student activists, and supporting businesses/organizations will be a historic achievement towards preserving, protecting, empowering and revitalizing Houston’s communities of color.
Come out and voice questions and concerns for your community. Dinner will be served. Be sure to grab a friend to bring along!!!
