Maternal Health Summit

You are invited to the upcoming Black Maternal Health Summit themed The Time is Now: Understanding the Black Maternal Health Crisis in Harris County, taking place on October 21-22, 2022, at the University of Houston Main Campus. Please see the registration link below; an event flyer is attached as well. Day one of this two-day event will be a screening of the film Aftershock, which examines the high maternal death rate for Black mothers in America. Day two will (1) convene stakeholders regarding the current state of Black maternal health in Harris County, the current gaps and barriers to positive Black maternal health outcomes, and identify key strategies and immediate action that can improve Black maternal and infant health and well-being, and (2) invite community members to receive pregnancy/maternal health and wellness pertinent guidance and resources during the “Community Day” portion of the event. The Black Maternal Health Summit will provide an opportunity to bring together unique perspectives on the medical and socio-economic factors affecting Black pregnant persons, as well as educate providers on key topics to drive change in addressing this profound public health issue. Our goal is to foster an environment where attendees can learn, share, and collaborate to make a powerful difference on critical issues impacting the health of Black mothers and children. We also have a virtual option for the Stakeholder Summit (on day 2), so please let us know via the registration link if you prefer that instead.
