The Coronation of UK's Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be this Saturday, May 6, 2023, 6 a.m. EST, and will mark the first time in 70 years that Britain has crowned a new monarch. The last coronation ---------- the late Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953. Educate your children about this upcoming event, and share it with them. Can DVR and watch later). This coronation is eight months after Charles' accession following the death of his mum, 9/8/2022.
The coronation will be a solemn Christian ceremony, known as Operation Golden Orb, presided over by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at Westminster Abbey in London. King Charles III is the supreme governor of the Church of England, the titular head of the Church of England, a position vested in the British monarch.
Set your alarm - or your DVR for May 6! If you want to watch the Coronation ceremony live, you'll need to get up early. The official service will begin at Westminster Abbey at 6 a.m. EST, which is 11 a.m. British Summer Time (BST). The service is expected to last around two hours. Of course, you can watch the events and procession leading up to the 6 a.m. EST ceremony. American TV networks ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX, etc will begin coverage at 5 a.m. EST. BBC coverage: Starts at 2:30 a.m. EST. Countless web sites will be showing the Coronation.
King Charles III has drastically slimmed down the event to about 2,000 folks and many important people are furious not to be on the guest list! (Queen Elizabeth II had 6,000+ at her coronation). Among the guests:
-Dr. Jill Biden will attend with her granddaughter (Brits are furious that Jill gets a Plus One when the top Brits cannot bring their spouses). No US president has ever attended a Brit coronation, so, Joe Biden will not attend.
-Future King - Prince William, Prince of Wales, and his wife, Kate Middleton (Camilla took away the crown Kate wanted to wear so Kate would not out-shine her, per the Brit press. Queen Camilla will be anointed, crowned and enthroned - although she will not have to take an oath. She will be crowned with Queen Mary's Crown - originally made for Queen Mary's coronation alongside George V - but it is being modified to remove some of the arches and reset with the Cullinan III, IV and V diamond - cut from the largest diamond in the world)
-Prince Harry, probably seated at a distance from William (I read Spare. Wow); Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, will remain in California with Prince Archie of Sussex (on this his 4th birthday) and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.
-Though he is no longer a working royal, disgraced Prince Andrew, Duke of York, is expected to attend his older brother's coronation. The Queen, last year, stripped her second son of his military affiliations and royal patronages, with a statement from the Palace confirming: “The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case [sexual assault in conjunction with Jeffrey Epstein] as a private citizen.” Queen first; mother second. [a possible tactic for Joe and Hunter...jk]
-And after being confirmed as one of the performers at the star-studded Coronation Concert on May 7, Lionel Richie, long-time friend of King Charles III, also received an invitation to the Coronation ceremony.
