TWEF 501(C)(3) (Texas Women's Empowerment Foundation), celebrated its 20th Anniversary Women Leadership Empowerment Awards, and Girl on Purpose Symposium – hosted by TWEF Founder, Deavra Daughtry, and Celebrity TV Psychologist, Dr. Sherry Blake. ** Business owner and Philanthropist, Deavra Daughtry, celebrated 20 years of giving by holding the TWEF Women's Leadership Empowerment Awards Brunch in the heart of Houston's Museum District at the beautiful Hotel Zaza. The event was also the inaugural Sister to Sister symposium. Honorary Chairs for the multi-celebrational event included; Mayor Sylvester Turner, Stephanie Nellons-Paige, CEO of the Nellons Paige Group, Inc., and Vanessa Reed, SVP -National External Affairs Manager at Comerica Bank.
More than 150 business women and leaders in the community attended the sold-out event that honored HELON HAMMONDS, UNITED AIRLINES, VICE-PRESIDENT OF HR SERVICES & GLOBAL LEARNING, with the TWEF Women's Leadership Empowerment Award. This award recognizes women who have distinguished themselves in their field. Past recipients include; Legendary Academy Award Winning Actress, Cicely Tyson; Editor Emeritus Essence Magazine, Susan Taylor; and International Business Mogul; Tina Knowles just to name a few.
In addition to the awards brunch, the Girl on Purpose symposium was introduced featuring a group of powerful women leaders from the business, financial, and health sectors. Women traveled from around the country to attend the event. Discussions included topics on education, female empowerment, and the importance of Securing The Financial Bag. “ The room was electrifying with an array of intergenerational women who were eager to come together to lend their voice regarding entrepreneurship and financial empowerment. This diverse group of women ranged from high-powered CEOs to budding entrepreneurs. It was important for young women, many of whom are in the early stages of entrepreneurship, to make connections with women who have forged a successful path in the business world. TWEF 20th year women's luncheon was a huge success!" -says TWEF Founder, Deavra Daughtry.
