Hidden Figures,  is scheduled for release between December 25, 2016 and January 6, 2017. The movie depicts the phenomenal true story of three African-American female mathematicians from HBCUs -- Katherine Johnson (Hampton ’36), Mary Jackson (Hampton ’42) and Dorothy Vaughan (Wilberforce ’29) -- who began working for NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia in the 1940s and 1950s at the leading edge of the feminist and civil rights movements.

Known as human “computers” at the time, their complex calculations for the center's aeronautical and rocket research before the days of electronic computing helped fuel some of America’s greatest achievements in space, including two historical events: the trajectory of Alan Shepherd’s 1961 trip into space, America’s first; and the 1962 launch of Friendship 7 during which John Glenn became the first American astronaut to orbit the earth. These launches transformed the Space Race, became a symbol of American pride, and led to breakthroughs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) worldwide.
