Efamily Member Robin Thorton seeks support of any amount (will be doubled by Google) to assist her students at KIPP in a Robotics
Efamily member Robin Thorton asks for help for her classroom below. She and Kervis you may remember as volunteers at south central sportz baseball. I just donated and it was very quick. Donations of any amount will be doubled by google as long as the funds last.
From Robin -- Hi Friends,
I want to make sure my students have what they need to succeed, so I've created a classroom project request through DonorsChoose.org, an award-winning charity.
Donations of any size will help my kids. Right now, any contribution you make to my project will be doubled by Google.org. This will turn a $10 donation into a $20 donation. Your donation will brighten my students' school year, and you'll get heartfelt thank-yous from my class and photos of your gift in action.
Here's my classroom request:
Code My Future With Digiland Tablets
To have your donation matched dollar for dollar, just make a contribution on that project page -- donations will be doubled automatically, but only while funding lasts.
If you know anyone who is passionate about education, please pass this along. My students and I greatly appreciate your support.

Unaccepted by Harvard - due to social media posts ! Don't lose your job, scholarship, college credits
From Top Tier admissions link below.
After being admitted to Harvard last spring, Parkland shooting survivor Kyle Kashuv suddenly saw his acceptance revoked after racist social media posts that he had written in 2017 surfaced last month.
Regardless of what you think of Kyle’s politics and whether or not you believe that young people may do and say things that, as they mature, no longer reflect who they are, colleges reserve the right to rescind the offer of admission for any action that calls into question a student’s academic or personal integrity. Period, end of story. In this matter, colleges hold all the cards. Actions that are found to be unethical, offensive, intolerant, and counter to a university’s values will not be tolerated, whether you are a pre-frosh or a current student. When this information comes to light before admissions decisions are finalized, it’s highly unlikely that the student would even be offered admission in the first place. If it comes to light after a student has been admitted, the college will thoroughly investigate and reserves the right to rescind its offer of admission. If information surfaces after a student has already matriculated, the student will most likely be expelled from the university and lose all credits that they may have accumulated.
So, let Kyle’s story be a cautionary tale. Your social media posts are discoverable and, should they contain material that some may find offensive, you might soon find yourself in a situation similar to Kyle’s and ‘unadmitted’ from your dream school. We always remind our students never to post anything they wouldn’t want their grandmother to read. Even things posted in jest or as seemingly safe as a Google document can be read by others.
DO ADMISSIONS OFFICERS CHECK APPLICANTS’ SOCIAL MEDIA?
A story in Inside Higher Ed last year looked at survey data to understand whether or not admissions leaders felt it was appropriate to check the social media profiles of their applicants and if so, how many are actually taking the time to view them. What they found was that more than two-thirds of admissions leaders said it was “fair game” for them to review applicants’ social media profiles on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as part of their admissions review. But, the survey also found that the reality of a time-crunched admissions review process meant that less than one-third of admissions staff actually have time to do so. Additionally, the survey posited that more students use private social networks and use fake accounts that only friends are aware of and are harder to trace back to the owner. That said, we know of a number of cases where other students, competitive about college admissions, turned over inappropriate posts or emails to admissions offices.
Before you decide that the odds are ‘good’ that someone won’t take a look at your old posts and tweets, remember that others are looking as well—even if you mark it as ‘private’.
SOCIAL MEDIA 101 FROM TOP TIER
Summer is a great time to do a little housekeeping on your various social media sites. Here are our top housekeeping tips:
Don’t post intolerant, racist, or otherwise offensive stuff on any of your sites, regardless of your political point of view. It goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyways. Teenage brains may be immature but you know enough now to know when material is offensive and crosses a line.
Google yourself and see what comes up. Do you like what you see? Remember, this is probably the approach that busy admissions officers will take if they are curious to see what you put out there.
Sanitize your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other sites. As a rule of thumb, if your grandmother would be offended, take it off your site right now.
Use social media to help tell your distinctive story. Blog about issues you care deeply about, interesting scientific discoveries, vexing math puzzles, and current events. Post pictures of your favorite works of art, the books you’ve read this summer, your dreams and aspirations, the view from your bedroom window, and yes, the family pet.

Book by William F. Frown, Music * Lyrics by Charlie Smalls, From the Story "The Winderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum
Directed by Alric Davis
It begins on a tumbledown farm in Kansas, but the tornado sets Dorothy and Toto down in a city like Oz. The words are hip and the songs upbeat. After celebrating the demise of the Wicked Witch of the East with the Munchkins, Dorothy departs for the Emerald City with a live yellow brick road. She encounters a cool Scarecrow who wants to join her because he has a feeling he isn't going anywhere; an uptight Tin Man who needs Dorothy's help to hang loose again, and timid Lion who has lost faith in the help he's been getting from an owl. Together they will seek help from the Great Man in the flashy city to make their wishes come true.
Dorothy, a restless Kansas farm girl eager to see more of the world, is transported by a tornado to a magical world of Munchkins, witches, and a yellow brick road. On her way to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz, who she believes can help her get back home to Kansas, she encounters the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion - friends who help her battle the Wicked Witch of the West and eventually learn that there really is “no place like home.”

'Byhalia, Mississippi' is a story of love, class, race and family
Don’t miss this new Kennedy Center production of playwright Evan Linder’s uncompromising exploration of race, infidelity, and family. Winner of Chicago’s prestigious Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Work in 2016, the play centers on a white couple, Jim and Laurel—they are broke, young, and deeply in love. They are also about to become new parents. When Laurel gives birth to their overdue child, the black baby is a surprise to everyone, especially her husband Jim, igniting a firestorm in their small southern town.
Jack Falahee, star of ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, plays the role of Jim in the heartfelt comedy. Joining Falahee are Black star Aimé Donna Kelly as Ayesha, Black star Blake Anthony Morris as Karl, Joseph Jefferson Award–winning Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble member Caroline Neff as Laurel, and Joseph Jefferson Award winner Cecelia Wingate as Celeste, Laurel's mother.
Chicago Tribune:
Set in the titular small town of Byhalia (pronounced "bye-HAIL-yah")— which is half an hour south of Memphis — this is the story of a struggling young working-class couple, Laurel and Jim. Laurel is pregnant with the couple's first child, and at the start of the play, we see her fending off the ministrations of a well-meaning but suffocating mother, Celeste (Cecelia Wingate). Jim seems like a good guy. That's the setup. Before long, though, it becomes clear that Jim might not be the father of this baby. Perchance Laurel has had a relationship with an African-American man.
What to do? Could any couple survive such a betrayal?
In part, the playwright is writing about love, error and forgiveness, but given that Jim not being the father of this child presumably will be obvious, he also is writing about race, even as he is not specifically writing about race. And he's writing about class, which doesn't always pivot along a racial axis.
Performance Timing: Act One - 58 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Act Two - 53 min.

There are no dress code requirements at the Kennedy Center. For most performances, dress ranges anywhere from casual to business casual to formal attire (only if you want). You will see it all and everyone is comfortable. Evening gowns and tuxedos are generally worn only to gala and special events, like Honors gala, or Dave Chappelle being awarded the Mark Twain Prize in October, etc.

Yacht -Delta Soror of Pat Evans Opened a Yacht Chartering Company
From Efamily member Pat Evans who is a Delta (I am an AKA but love to support all my sisters!!)
All,
Our Delta Sigma Theta Northern Virginia Alumnae (NoVAC) soror opened her own Yacht Chartering (available for renting) business as a luxurious alternative to cruise ships vacations. Her company is called Socha Yacht Club. For more information or to book, please visit www.socayachtclub.com, or contact Soror Sheila Ruffin at info@socayachtclub.com
Inherent in the name is soca, a musical genre of Caribbean culture and the “soundtrack of carnival,” which is an exuberant celebration that involves processions, dancing, parties, parades, and the most colorful and bejeweled costumes you have ever seen! Soca’s groovy beat and up-tempo are the signature elements infused in each of her yacht experiences to have you “making waves & rocking the boat!” From yacht vacations and festivals to business events at sea, her goal is to provide experiences that you will find exhilarating, refreshing, and memorable.
When you charter a yacht, you have your own trained captain to steer the vessel, personal chef to create mouth-watering cuisine, and host to create a hospitable experience.
You and your companions will get full privacy. The only “third wheels” will be the yacht crew, and they will have their own cabins and are only there to cater to your every whim.
“I am beyond excited for this opportunity to market my travel agency before my sorority sisters on a national level,” says Soror Ruffin.
Established by Soror Ruffin, Soca Yacht Club is a boutique travel agency that charters state-of-the-art yachts to meet your travel needs with all-inclusive travel packages to a Caribbean oasis. It was created to not only provide a luxurious experience to the traditional travel enthusiast, but also to expand to a more diverse population. “There is a myth that African Americans are only interested in cruise vacations and they lack the finances to charter a yacht. A large portion of African Americans are interested in yachting, but the industry ignores our race and ethnicity,” explains Soror Ruffin.
Bronze Breadfruit starts at $36,057 per yacht, Silver Soursop starts at $48,215 per yacht, and Gold Guava starts at $57,310 per yacht, based on 5 nights and 6 days. Your party must charter the whole yacht. Payment plans are available, spread across all members in your yachting party. For those guests flying into St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, roundtrip airport shuttle and roundtrip ferry service to the marina (where you will board your yacht) is included in pricing. If you fly into Tortola, British Virgin Islands, roundtrip airport shuttle to the marina is included. You handle your own flight/airline tickets.
For more information, please visit www.socayachtclub.com, or contact Soror Ruffin at info@socayachtclub.com
