Black Arts Matter!

Support Black Artists and Arts Initiatives

TODAY During GivingTuesday!

GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that takes place annually the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. On GivingTuesday, nonprofits ask their supporters and communities to contribute to their cause.

Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative is participating for the first time in this special online fundraiser and we hope you will consider donating TODAY on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

Our board, comprised of professional artists, former heads of industry, academic professionals, scholars, art advocates and civic leaders, has joined forces to amplify and empower works produced by Black artists and promote diversity in programming and leadership throughout our community. We have formed common cause to use the unifying power of the arts to nurture inclusion and diversity across the regional arts and cultural landscape.

We are requesting your financial support for several projects we are developing for the Suncoast:

• The first of these projects is the Arts and Racial Justice Panel Series. We believe that the time is ripe—and never more apparent—to boldly explore issues of racial justice and inclusion in the regional arts and cultural landscape. SBAC’s four-part Arts and Racial Justice Panel Series brings artists, arts and civic leaders, and arts advocates together for courageous conversations about inclusion and diversity in the arts. We will stage four free panel events in 2021: January 25 (visual arts); March 1 (performing arts/theater); April 19 (media/literary); May 10 (education).

• The second of these projects is to create a curatorial platform that promotes the art of African American artists. This will be done through an Ambassadors Program, which will be open for the greater community to join. Through visitation to exhibitions and public programs with guest artists, these initiatives will foster knowledge, exchange, and collaborations with diverse communities while strengthening and enriching the understanding of the culture, history, and value of art by artists of color. These Ambassadors will raise awareness and appreciation for the artistic legacy of the African American artist.

• The third of these projects is an Educational Initiative to support the talent of students of African descent at the secondary and college level. Through annual student exhibits promoted by Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative and local art galleries, students will be mentored by artist of color and their work critiqued and creativity encouraged. Artists of color will participate in school visits to make diversity in the arts an educational imperative and competitive advantage in learning environments for all students.
