Greetings Family and Friends,

I am a second year student in the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College (MMC) in Nashville, Tennessee.  This year I have the privilege of serving as the Community Service Chair for the Henry W. Foster Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) Interest Group at MMC.  This interest group was named in honor of Dr. Henry Wendell Foster Jr., who is Professor Emeritus of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, former Dean of the School of Medicine, and former Acting President of Meharry Medical College.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have not been able to go out and serve in our community as we had anticipated and many of the events we had planned had to be canceled.  One of the events that was cancelled was our annual “Ovarian Cycle” where we partner with the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (ORCA) to host a cycling class in the Nashville community.  This event allowed us to bring awareness to ovarian cancer and raise money for OCRA. Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.  Additionally, ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecological malignancy, which disproportionately affects African American women. Though we are not able to host the event this year, we still want to continue supporting the efforts of ORCA through a fundraiser.

To assist me with our fundraising efforts, I am requesting your support by making a donation to ORCA in any amount you deem appropriate.  Our group goal is to raise $3,000.  Please give what you can - every dollar makes a difference.  You can make your tax deductible donation to ORCA through our Meharry Medical College OB/GYN Interest Club fundraiser page.  For more information and to make a donation, please click on the link below.

On behalf of the Henry W. Foster OB/GYN Interest Group, I kindly ask that you make your donation by Thursday, December 31, 2020.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Jasmine L. Blair
