Carnegie Mellon University’s Summer Academy for Mathematics and Science

The Summer Academy for Mathematics and Science is a six-week rigorous residential experience for high school seniors who have a strong interest in computer science, engineering and natural sciences. The summer academy's goal is to equip students with essential skills necessary for successful completion of STEM majors.
The program seeks to recruit underserved and underrepresented students who hail from a multitude of diverse backgrounds, including ethnic minority students, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, populations inadequately represented in STEM disciplines and students who reside in underserved school districts and/or are first generation college-bound students.
We strongly encourage students from the following backgrounds to apply*:
  • Students from racial backgrounds that are underrepresented in science and engineering (African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American)
  • Underserved students, coming from low socioeconomic backgrounds (which may be indicated by qualifying for free/reduced school lunches)
  • First-generation college students (a high school student whose parent(s) haven't received a bachelor's degree)
*All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
