Port City Links STEM Fair & Carnival at South Central Sportz Opening Day in Sunnyside Park
Families of the Sunnyside community will come together on Saturday March 28, 2020 for YOUTH BASEBALL and a FUN and EDUCATIONAL FAIR IN THE PARK as a result of partnership sponsors: Schlumberger, A-Rocket Moving, Texas State Senator Borris Miles, Nightlight Pediatric Care, Constable May Walker, Legacy Community Health, Worley, Texas Southern University, Houston Airports, Harris County Civil Service, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, HISD School Trustee Wanda Adams, On the Go Transit, Texas Black Expo-ASPIRE Youth, Garfield Johnson, MD Texas EMT Specialists, and City Council Member Carolyn Shabazz.




“For our 19th season, youth ages 4-14 will participate in the exciting South Central Sportz Opening Ceremonies – 15 teams named to honor the Negro League parade on the field, culminating with many Special Guests – former MLB players, elected officials, and media personalities throwing of the first baseball to Open the Season.” said Cravon Rogers, President of South Central Sportz.









Mayor Sylvester Turner is invited to throw the first baseball and join Special Guests welcoming the teams on the field at 10am for the Opening Ceremonies including invited guests Texas State Senator Borris Miles, Houston City Council Member Carolyn Shabazz, Congressman Al Green and HISD School Board Trustee Wanda Adams, Paula Harris, Schlumberger Director, Global Social Responsibility Programs, Marion Harper Houston Astros and Constable May Walker to name a few.

According to Sabrina Loeb, President of the Port City Links, “this 15th annual community event has expanded each year this year will feature an HBCU Village College Fair with SCHOLARSHIP and SUMMER PROGRAM INFORMATION at the Port City Links Health, Education, and Science Fair as an exciting offering, plus Carnival features such as FREE PONY RIDES - PETTING ZOO - FREE Rock Climbing, Face Painting, Carnival Games, Puppet shows, Jewelry-making, Science Fair Projects, FREE Summer Camp and Health Education Booths; Voter Registration, “I Want to Be An Engineer” Mobile Museum, Zumba dance demonstration, FREE NASA EXHIBIT – PHOTO WITH ASTRONAUT DISPLAY, as well as Baylor College of Medicine health screening booth, MD Anderson, METRO, Astros Literacy Bus (free books), the Society of Women Engineers, HISD Food Services, University Museum at TSU, Landry’s Downtown Aquarium, Health Museum, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Family Health and Wellness Center-Dr. Stacey Jones, Houston Fire Dept. are just a few of the over 40 organizations with booths that will participate! Booths have giveaways for children adults as well as drawings which included several door prizes including a GRAND PRIZE of Boy and Girl bikes and 2 $100 HEB grocery gift cards.”






The crowd will also enjoy performances at the Pavilion stage after the opening ceremonies conclude from the Ensemble, cheer leaders, dancers and more.

Over 800 participants of all ages are expected to attend this annual community-wide event!” Other surprises are in store that promote the health of the community and encourage participation in youth sports.
