Hello Family and Friends,
I hope this email finds you doing well. Each year Emancipation Park Conservancy (EPC)

hosts the largest Juneteenth celebration in the city of Houston, welcoming thousands of people to the center of the historic Third Ward community (the community where George Floyd grew up). In 2019, we hosted well over 6,000 people in the park for the festival. As we are tasked with continuing to celebrate the liberation of African Americans in the middle of a global pandemic and keeping this tradition of our founders and ancestors alive for the 148th consecutive year,  we introduced the #WeAreJuneteenth campaign. #WeAreJuneteenth  is a national social media campaign that celebrates the holiday and its connection to the African American experience, including history, traditions, heritage, and culture. Native Houstonian, actress Phylicia Rashad is our honorary chairman and we will be paying a tribute the late Al Edwards, known to some as “Mr. Juneteenth” a civil rights activist and former Houston legislator who helped Texas become the first state in the country to make the abolition of slavery an official holiday.

I am asking for YOUR help in bringing awareness to the #WeAreJuneteenth campaign and this sacred holiday by posting "what #WeAreJuneteenth means to you" and "why it is important for individuals everywhere to acknowledge and commemorate the holiday," on your social media platform(s) for others to participate.   YOUR  support will encourage participants all over the world.
.
Please see attached files ( social media toolkit and graphics)  that explain how to participate in the #WEAREJUNETEENTH national campaign . I included some examples with the sign. You can choose to post only the photo of you with the postcard or you can add the photo and text to your post briefly saying what your word means in connection to Juneteenth. If you need some examples of posts, please click the toolkit. Please tag us @epconservancy and #WEAREJUNETEENTH on social media to be reposted.

Steps:
  • Print postcard (can also be on a regular size sheet of 8.5x11 paper)
  • Write your 1-3 words on postcard
  • Snap photo with postcard (group or individual)
  • Share your photo on social media, tag @epconservancy and use #WEAREJUNETEENTH

We also created some Facebook frames for participants to add to their profile photo. This is totally optional but wanted to share.
Here is how to find them:
  • Click update on your profile photo
  • In the dropbox select ‘add frame’
  • It will go to the frames
  • In the search box type #wearejuneeth and all 5 frames will show
  • Select the one you want and save

Thank you so much and I look forward to your participation!
