Recently, Harris County Public Health (HCPH) launched a new COVID-19 vaccination registration portal inviting residents to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine waitlist. To ensure fair access for elderly residents, working families, and vulnerable populations, registrants on the waitlist are selected through a randomization and prioritization process rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. While anyone can sign up for the waitlist, individuals in distribution phase 1A and 1B are being prioritized at this time. Vaccines continue to be in very short supply. However, as more vaccines become available, eligible registrants are contacted and offered an opportunity to schedule an appointment time and location. While County staff are working to ensure that as many residents as possible know about the new portal and how to register, we also hope community partners like you will help spread the word and further build trust and share science-based information throughout the community.
Appointments can also be made by calling the HCPH COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline at 832-927-8787. (NOTE: The Vaccination Portal registration site is not supported in Internet Explorer. Residents should use a different internet browser to register.) Getting through the COVID-19 emergency will require all of us to do our part to reach herd immunity. In that spirit, we also want to make sure that you have access to science-based information to engage your community as credible messengers about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. Research shows that up to 40% of our population will not receive or is undecided about getting vaccinated. For more information, you can visit www.StaySmartDoYourPart.com for toolkits and other information regarding the vaccine, including FAQs and myths and facts.
