National Suicide Prevention Week thanks efamily member Janice Weaver for sharing! Prayers

HCSO Family, Your HCSO Behavioral Health Division would like to highlight National Suicide Prevention Week (NSPW) 2022. NSPW is an annual week-long campaign in the United States to inform and engage health professionals and the general public about suicide prevention and warning signs of suicide. According to the CDC, in 2020, 45,979 people died by suicide in the United States. That is one death every eleven minutes. Over twelve million adults seriously thought about suicide, 3.2 million made a plan, and 1.2 million adults attempted suicide. Law enforcement officers, detention officers, and public safety tele-communicators are subject to the impact of ongoing stressors, and are at significantly higher risk of suicide than typical American workers. Suicide awareness and prevention tools and resources must be made available to law enforcement officers, agencies, and family members. Remember that seeking help is never a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of great strength! Suicide is preventable. The public depends on our agency and we depend on each other. Watch for the signs: Withdrawal, dramatic mood changes, increased consumption of alcohol or drugs, and hopelessness. The first step in helping each other is to ask. If you ask, you can save a life. The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), the most evidence-supported tool of its kind, is a simple series of questions that anyone can use anywhere in the world to prevent suicide. The HCSO Behavioral Health Division provides evidence-based services with a focus on the mental and emotional wellbeing of our HCSO law enforcement and civilian staff, as well as qualified dependents. These services are free, and are provided in order to better equip our men and women with mental health support, especially during these turbulent times. To schedule an appointment, please call 346-286-3150. If you need us, please reach out. We are here to serve you! Respectfully, Robert W.
