AKA Inducts Luminaries

January 15, 2023 Greetings Sorors, Today, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® welcomed four exemplary honorary members to the Sisterhood: multi-Grammy awards winner and nationally syndicated radio host Erica Campbell; America’s most decorated Track & Field Olympian Allyson Felix; living legend, multi-Grammy awards, American Music Awards, NAACP awards winner and New York Times best-selling author Patti LaBelle; and trailblazing public servant Delaware Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester. During the 115th International Founders’ Day Commemoration, I presided over the ceremony and inducted these four women during our members-only ceremony. I truly believe these exemplary women have achieved great distinction, acclaim, and success in their professional and personal lives. Now, we are deeply honored to embrace them as sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Since 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated inducted 152 honorary members into our illustrious sisterhood who exemplify our core values through their extraordinary achievements. They hail from across the world and represent a variety of racial and ethnic groups as well as religious traditions. The one quality that they all have in common, found in Alpha Kappa Alpha’s DNA, is the spirit of service and selflessness. Our newest members, Sorors Erica Campbell, Allyson Felix, Patti LaBelle, and Lisa Blunt Rochester, add to the brilliance of our perpetual strand of women who are committed to sisterhood and service. Honorary membership is the sorority’s highest honor and is awarded to distinguished women whose works and contributions parallel AKA’s ideals of achievement and service. I am deeply grateful to members of the International Honorary Members and Awards Committee Sorors Diedra A. Fontaine, Chairman; Rashan Ali, Tracy Baker, Rasheeda Garner, and Deardra Hayes-Whigham, whose diligence and tireless efforts led to this momentous day.
