Howard University "Showtime" Marching Band just announced as closing act to Kennedy Center REACH Festival ending on September 22.
You can reserve online: https://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/event/XTROF or by calling the Box Office at (202) 467-4600 since the Opening Festival uses timed-entry passes and not regular performance tickets. It sounds like a really exciting closing to the festival. This will take place the evening of Sunday, September 22, 2019, so we recommend reserving passes for the 5:30 p.m. time on Sunday, September 22, 2019. There are still many passes available, but they are going quick so we would recommend reserving as soon as you can!

I went on another tour Saturday, 8/10/19 of the Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center's 3 new buildings (most of space is underground) called the REACH. A young black dance company was practicing in one of the REACH studios! Free passes and a full day-by-day schedule for our Kennedy Center REACH (3 new buildings/pavilions) Sept 7-22 Opening Festival with over 400 events are now available.
The REACH houses classrooms, event spaces, rehearsal rooms, performance halls with top-of-the-line acoustics, cafes, etc.
Architect Steven Holl’s design aimed to further connect the Kennedy Center with both its namesake and the landscape. A pedestrian walkway over Rock Creek Park connects the popular trail along the Potomac River to the Kennedy Center. Thirty-five (35) ginkgo trees planted on the expansion’s lawn honor the 35th president. Their yellow leaves typically drop in November, the month of his assassination. And quotes from Kennedy about the importance of artists have been etched in glass and marble across the campus. Studios/rooms are named Studiio J, Studio F, Studio K,

These innovative indoor and outdoor spaces put YOU at the center of the art—where you can chart your own course and connect what moves you.

Every day of the festival offers something for everyone, with daily spotlights on special themes or art forms sprinkled throughout. No matter when you visit, you’ll find plenty of unique performances, interactive activities, insightful conversations, and other events that speak to your interests and pique your curiosity. Explore everything from classical, jazz, and electronica music to comedy, dance, theater, film, Hip Hop, indigenous cultures, and family fun!

Discover how the The John. F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, official home for the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Opera, is forging new ways for artists from near and far, community groups, and YOU to come together to create and share joyous and meaningful moments, learn from each other, and win hearts and minds through the power of the arts and a living theater. See you at the REACH!

The mission of The REACH is to add an extension to The Kennedy Center (opened 9/8/1971) for artistic projects and community engagement. As for the name The REACH, in opening remarks, Deborah Rutter, President of The Kennedy Center, said the letters represent Renew, Experience, Activate, Create, and Honor the legacy of Kennedy. The REACH "came about from President Kennedy's aspirational, ever-hopeful vision for our nation," said Rutter, at a "first look" tour of the site. "He encouraged us to reach for dreams, for those moonshot moments that would move us forward." (One of the rooms in the REACH is called "Moonshot.")

Do I need a pass to enter?
Yes, timed-entry passes are required for all participants regardless of age. If you arrive without a pass, you will be placed in a stand-by line to acquire one. There is a 6 pass limit per order. Passes can be obtained through the REACH Fest app, online at Kennedy-Center.org/REACH, by phone at 202-467-4600, or in person at the Box Office. Passes can either be printed at home or displayed on your mobile device. If you need your pass re-printed, please visit the Kennedy Center Box Office in the Hall of Nations.
