A Message From Your President
Greetings:
On behalf of the Executive Board of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) Houston Chapter, I would like to thank our members, corporate partners, and supporters for contributing to a memorable 2021. Despite the lingering uncertainty caused by each successive wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we maintained our focus and delivered on our 2021 targets. We continue to be one of the leading chapters in the NBMBAA, and I am incredibly proud of our Executive Board for leading our chapter to deliver value to the Houston community!

We began the year focused on delivering value to our members, partners, and supporters in three (3) main areas, including Skills & Career Development, University Student Engagement, and Community Impact. While continuing pandemic-related concerns meant holding most of our programming virtually, our Executive Board ensured that these events were still impactful. Our Human Resources Committee developed and delivered four (4) unique, new Career Development modules for our University and Early-Mid Career members. To engage University Students, we held ten (10) different sessions for university students all over the greater Houston area. The universities included Texas A&M, Texas Southern University, and the University of Houston. For Community Impact, we responded to the unprecedented damage caused by Winter Storm Uri by distributing $16,000 in Winter Storm Reimbursements to chapter members.

The HR Corner
Whether you’re entering the market for the first time or switching roles to find a more suitable work environment, you should consider what it will be like on your new team before you make the jump — and that starts with understanding their culture.

At work, “culture” is a word used to describe the way people behave within an organization and the attitudes and beliefs that reflect those behaviors. It’s the way people communicate, interact, and in general, work with each other. To read more, please click here.
