$2M in Improvements Announced by the Mayor -part of $50M initiative Winzer Park (formerly Carver Park)

City of Houston Mayor's Office Mayor Turner's Public Schedule FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: 11/05/2023 View this email in your browser Mayor Turner's Public Schedule for Monday, November 6, 2023 11 a.m. Mayor Sylvester Turner together with Houston Housing & Community Development Department and Houston Parks & Recreation Department will celebrate $2 million improvements to Winzer Park. The park is one of the 50 parks identified in Mayor Turner’s 50/50 Park Partner initiative. The City’s public investment in the 50/50 initiative is upward of $14 million. WHO: Mayor Sylvester Turner, City of Houston Chief Troy Finner, Houston Police Department Kenneth Allen, Director, Houston Parks & Recreation Dept. Keith Bynam, Director, Houston Housing & Community Dev. C.J. Messiah, Director, Houston General Services Dept. Winzer Park improvements include: a new sprayground, tennis court resurfacing, new outdoor exercise area with shade sails, new picnic area and picnic shelter, new furnishings, wider walking trails, new fencing, upgraded lighting and landscaping, and improved drainage and detention. The total project cost is $2,676,795 and was funded with Community Development Block Grant funds, the Parks and Recreation Dedication Fund, and Parks Consolidated Construction funds. Winzer Park was acquired by the City of Houston in 1978. It was originally named Carver Park but was renamed 10 years later to honor HPD Officer Andrew Winzer, who was killed in the line of duty in February 1988. Winzer Park 7300 Carver Road
