Please join Charlene Jackson & The Houston Host Committee for a Fireside Chat and Book Signing to celebrate Carla Harris’ new book, Strategize to Win.  The event will be held at Grace’s, a Johnny Carrabba Restaurant on Saturday, March 7th from 2-4:30 PM.  Light refreshments will be served.  

Carla, a distinguished leader, sought-after speaker, outstanding gospel singer, best-selling  author and phenomenal philanthropist will discuss the book with Clarenda McGrady, wife of Tracy McGrady former Rockets, NBA player.

Leader
Carla Harris is a Vice Chairman, Global Wealth Management, Managing Director and Senior Client Advisor at Morgan Stanley. She is also the chairperson of the National Women’s Business Council, having been appointed by President Obama in August 2013. In her role at Morgan Stanley, she is responsible for increasing client connectivity and penetration to enhance revenue generation across the firm. She formerly headed the Emerging Manager Platform, the equity capital markets effort for the consumer and retail industries and was responsible for Equity Private Placements. Ms. Harris has extensive industry experiences in the technology, media, retail, telecommunications, transportation, industrial, and healthcare sectors. For more than a decade, Ms. Harris was a senior member of the Equity Syndicate desk and executed such transactions as initial public offerings for UPS, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Ariba, Digitas, Redback, the General Motors sub-IPO of Delphi Automotive, and the $3.2 Billion common stock transaction for Immunex Corporation, one of the largest biotechnology follow on offerings in U.S. history. Ms. Harris began her career with Morgan Stanley in the Mergers & Acquisitions department in 1987. 

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, she received from Harvard Business School an MBA, Second Year Honors and an AB in economics from Harvard University, Magna Cum Laude. Ms. Harris also has received Honorary Doctorate degrees from Marymount Manhattan College, Bloomfield College, Jacksonville University, Simmons College, the College of New Rochelle and Fisk University.

Ms. Harris is actively involved in her community and heartily believes that “we are blessed so that we can be a blessing to someone else.” As a result, she has funded the Carla Harris Scholarship Fund at Harvard University and at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida. She is the Chair of the Board of the Morgan Stanley Foundation and sits on the boards of the Food Bank for NYC, Mt. Sinai Hospital, the Executive Leadership Council, the Toigo Foundation, Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO), A Better Chance, Inc., the Apollo Theater Foundation, Xavier University and the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School. Ms. Harris has served on the board of the Maya Angelou Research Center on Minority Health and was a member of the Board of Overseers’ Committee on University Resources, Harvard University. She is the co-chair of the National Social Action Commission of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Ms. Harris is the recipient of many awards including the Women of Power Award given by the National Urban League, and the Women of Influence Award from The Links, Inc. She has received the Bert King Award from the Harvard Business School African American Alumni Association, the 2005 Women’s Professional Achievement Award from Harvard University, the Pierre Toussaint Medallion from the Office of Black Ministry of the Archdiocese of New York, the Bill and Camille Cosby Award given by Associated Black Charities, the NASP New York’s Wall Street Hall of Fame Award, Blazing New Trails award from the Robert A. Toigo Foundation, the Bethune Award from the National Council of Negro Women, the Ron Brown Trailblazer Award from St. John’s University School of Law, the Women of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of Greater Essex and Hudson Counties, and the Frederick Douglass Award given by the New York Urban League.
Ms. Harris has been featured in: Fortune Magazine “The Most Powerful Black Executives in Corporate America” and “The Most Influential List,” Black Enterprise Magazine: “Top 75 African Americans on Wall Street” and “Top 75 Most Powerful Women in Business,” Essence magazine: “The 50 Women Who are Shaping the World,” Ebony “15 Corporate Women at the Top,” the Network Journal’s 2005 list of “25 Most Outstanding Women in Business” and was named “Woman of the Year 2004” by the Harvard University Black Men’s Forum. Author

Ms. Harris’ passion lies in helping others. While climbing the corporate ladder, she had her own personal missteps amidst numerous victories. She vowed that when she reached senior management and people came to her for advice, she would provide them with the tools, strategies, and pearls of wisdom honed by her own experience.
Ms. Harris is an extremely sought-after speaker and in Expect to Win, her first book, she shares many valuable lessons or Pearls. “Carla’s Pearls” have become the centerpiece for her many speeches and television appearances. Expect to Win made several best-seller lists.
Ms. Harris’ new book, Strategize to Win was released in December 2014. The book has already received many great reviews and one of the chapters has been previewed in the December issue of Essence Magazine. At the time of this writing, Strategize to Win was trending as one of the top 5 business books on Amazon.

Singer

Ms. Harris is an accomplished singer who has delighted audiences around the world with her soulful renditions of new and old gospel favorites. Starting young with a love of singing, she quickly migrated towards choral music and gospel choirs at age 13.
While at Harvard University, she continued to pursue her music, singing with the world-renowned Radcliffe Chorale Society, the oldest women’s singing group at Harvard, and in her own band Rhythm Company. She is an active member of the St. Charles Gospelites of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Mark Howell Singers.
Ms. Harris has released several albums. Her first album, Carla’s First Christmas, was featured on The Evening News with Dan Rather and was one of the top selling albums on Amazon.com in New York City. Ms. Harris also has released two other albums, Joy is Waiting and Unceasing Praise.

Ms. Harris has performed 4 sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall with all proceeds going to her foundation, Nema-Amen. Nema-Amen raises funds to provide academic and financial support for economically disadvantaged students of color in grades K-12. All concert expenses are underwritten by Nema-Amen so that 100% of the proceeds are provided to the receipient institutions on behalf of the students. Ms. Harris will be performing at Carnegie Hall again in November 2015.
