The HCDP family mourns the passing of one of our own, the Honorable Ada Edwards, former Houston City Councilmember for District D.
Councilmember Edwards moved to Houston in 1979 and became a political force in our community almost immediately. As a field organizer for HCDP in the 1990’s Ada was tireless in support of our Party’s candidates. And whether protesting apartheid and demanding the City of Houston and University of Houston financially divest from South Africa or helping to establish the Houston HIV Aids Action Coalition and the AFL-CIO Community Union Fund, Ada understood the importance of standing up for what was right and helping the less fortunate in our community.
Councilmember Edward’s life was a testament to putting the needs of her community before herself. We at HCDP celebrate the example of the life she led and send our condolences to her children and family.
