Faces of Innovation: Global Teen Medical Summit

JULY 11 - 15, 2016

There’s only one place in the world where health is advanced daily like it is at the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. Partnering with some of the brightest minds in medicine today, The Health Museum’s Global Teen Medical Summit will provide unparalleled access and interaction with medical thought leaders.

ABOUT THE SUMMIT

Open to all current 9th – 12th grade students who are interested in exploring the countless career options available in the medical and health fields. This five-day interactive curriculum provides an opportunity to explore both the challenges and solutions facing modern day medicine with leading experts from the world renowned Texas Medical Center. Gain real-world medical career experience at a variety of sessions including cutting edge diagnostic technologies, real-life simulated surgical procedures, hands-on dissections and suturing techniques, true-to-life medical simulations and discussions with medical experts and medical school students.

Explore cutting-edge technology which expands the boundaries of what we can see, understand or treat. Hear about innovative collaborations between traditionally unrelated fields and delve into scientific discoveries and policies with both local and global implications.

Here's a snapshot of some of the Summit Highlights:

EXPLORE REAL WORLD MEDICINE:

The Methodist Hospital Research Institute:

Students will interact with multi-million dollar equipment at The Houston Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation & Education (MITIE). This innovative, virtual hospital and hands-on clinic training facility, is for health care professionals seeking to maintain excellent procedural skills and acquire new provinces.

UT Health Science Center - Houston:

Tour the Medical School (including training labs, cadaver labs, etc) and immerse yourself in the life of a medical student as they check your group's vital signs, suture a wound, work on a life-like mannequin or observe medical science technologies. Get tips on applying for medical school from a faculty member at the UT Health Science Center.

Ben Taub Hospital:

Take a walking tour of the Triage Unit with Dr. Christner, the Dean of UME (Undergraduate Medical Education)/GME (Graduate Medical Education) at Baylor School of Medicine.  See the team of experts working on patients in real-time.

MD Anderson School of Health Professions:

Tour the School of Health Professions: Learn about an exciting career in radiology, view the radiologist science lab, and learn about diagnostic imaging while viewing human tumors.

INNOVATE: TEAM CHALLENGE

Join other curious minds as you race to find a solution to a global pandemic in the Faces of Innovation 2016 challenge.  Teams will present their findings to experts in the field and earn recognition at the awards ceremony.

FIND OUT WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF:

Roll up your sleeves and participate in real dissections and learn suturing techniques as you view real human organs.

Visit the DeBakey Cell Lab, the largest cell lab in the country, and work on a variety of activity benches exploring topics related to cellular, molecular, and microbiology.

You'll hear from some of the brightest minds in the world throughout the 5-day Summit including:

Opening Keynote Speaker: Dr. Amina Qutab, PhD, Bio Engineering, Assistant Professor at Rice University
