Urgent Request for MD Anderson Patient - relative of efamily member Tammy Lanier

This is an urgent request on behalf of Tammy Lanier. She has a younger cousin, Kacey Moore, who is in treatment at M.D. Anderson from Baton Rouge. Kacey is only 25 years-old, just finished graduate school, is an elementary school teacher, and unfortunately, was very recently diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. It is a very serious condition.

On Kacey’s behalf, Tammy is hosting a blood drive in conjunction with M.D. Anderson, at her church, St. James’ Episcopal, on Southmore Boulevard in Third Ward on Saturday, May 1, from 10am-4pm. ALL BLOOD TYPES ARE NEEDED. (Link to register:

Aplastic Anemia causes one’s bone marrow to stop functioning. Bone marrow is responsible for the production of blood and platelets. Additionally, it plays an important role in the healthy and necessary clotting of blood. At this time, Kacey is living from transfusion to transfusion, while receiving treatment- since she is not producing the blood she needs to survive. She must also be very careful in her daily living since her blood can’t clot. While her condition is not cancerous, it is in the broad family of blood cancers.

Further, if her treatment doesn't work, she will need a bone marrow transplant followed by chemotherapy.

About the blood drive: COVID-19 protocols are in place and an appointment is required. The link to register for the blood drive is:
