You'll be captivated by the "complex patterns and fascinating elements" of the DBDT: Encore! Legacy Performance, which features the intricate work Mirror of the Effigy choreographed by My'Kal J. Stromile. Dallas native Stromile is a Boston Ballet company member and an alumnus of both The Juilliard School and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and a former DBDT: Encore! dancer. Join My'Kal and the Encore! company members for the Dancemaker's Discussion that follows.

Access to the virtual event will be available 10 minutes prior to the performance start time to allow users time to troubleshoot any technical issues. We advise logging in at this time to make sure your internet connection is working properly and/or set up screen-mirroring to your smart TV if you plan to do so.

To Screen-Mirror to Your Smart TV

If you wish to watch the performance on your smart TV, you may be able to depending on the model and age of your smart TV. Below are frequently used methods of "screen-mirroring" from a computer, tablet, or smartphone to a smart TV.

Connecting via HDMI Cable

First, connect one end of the HDMI cable to the port on your laptop and the other end to the port on your TV. Second, go to your TV's menu and select the HDMI input. (If more than one HDMI port on your TV, select either HDMI 1 or HDMI 2, depending on which port you plugged into.)

Submission Categories

* Paintings/Sculptures
* COVID Mask
* Musical Instruments

Age Levels

*Siku Usoni (Future) for kids aged 4-12
* Msukumo (Inspiration) for teans aged 13-17
* Kiongozi (Leader) for adults aged 18+

1st Place

* One first place winner will be selected from each age level for a total of three winners.
* The first place winners will receive a free link to the virtual DanceAfrica performance Saturday, October 10, 2020
* The first place winners' artwork will be revealed during the DanceAfrica performance. The artwork will also be displayed on the DBDT website and social media.

Contest Rules

1) All artwork must be African inspired
2) All artwork must be completed by the applicant
3) Artwork submissions must be photographed and submitted as a JPG or PDF
4) All contest entries must be submitted by Friday, October 2, 2020 at 5:00pm CDT
5) There is no entry fee
