The Way Home Adoption, Inc.

The Way Home Adoption is a local non-profit that focuses on older youth (ages 11-17) who have been lingering in foster care waiting for adoptive homes.  In a nutshell, we are sometimes described as the 'cold case unit + match.com' for the youth for whom traditional adoption efforts have failed.  It is our mission to find every child in foster care a permanent home before they age-out of the system on their 18th birthday.

There are more than 11,000 children in Texas, and approximately 1,100 will age out this year. The Way Home Adoption is the only organization in Texas focusing exclusively on these youth.

When leaving foster care at age 18, these teens (on average) are:

  • reading on a 7th grade level.
  • more likely not to graduate from high school.
  • more likely to become homeless.
  • more likely to become victims of human trafficking.
  • more likely to end up in the criminal justice system.
  • less likely to be gainfully employed than their peers.

The statistics go on and on. The Way Home Adoption was developed based on research showing that adoption is the only solution that truly changes this trajectory.

Our Hearts Who Need Homes photo gallery features real youth who are waiting for their childhoods to begin. Sharing the faces, hopes, and needs of these youth with your community will directly impact their likelihood of adoption, giving families the opportunity to recognize in themselves that they may be exactly the family a child has been waiting for.

Email me donna.blackshear.reynolds@gmail.com to send you a brochure about being a virtual host of The Hearts Who Need Homes gallery.  Would you be open to highlighting some of these youth on your social media/website/newsletter next month?  I hope you’ll be able help us get their faces out into the community to find the families they deserve! On behalf of all these kiddos, thank you in advance for your potential partnership.

Thank you,

 Donna Blackshear-Reynolds
