Lead Communication Strategist

Job Function

The successful candidate will be part of a team of communicators creating, leading and delivering a variety of HRP communication products for internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate must be passionate about human spaceflight science. They must thrive on and enjoy the challenge of translating complex research about the effects of space on the human body into relatable and meaningful communication products. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of creating communication products based on complex concepts that are easier for the target audience to understand. This position requires a high level of creativity, solid strategic judgement, effective tactical execution, the ability to measure the effectiveness of products and adjust future actions based on metrics and audience feedback. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, collaborative and have demonstrated leadership ability. Preference will be given to those with previous NASA or Government writing experience as well as a strong writing portfolio, a bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience.

Tasks Include:

  • Create communication products for HRP including feature articles, image features, content for infographics, blog posts, scripts for videos, slide presentations and other products as needed.
  • Create a communication plan for HRP, defining and capturing stakeholder communication objectives and goals. Develop the strategies to achieve those goals and oversee implementation of the plan.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather product requirements and understand communication objectives.
  • Assign projects to the team as well as create communication products aligned with objectives of the program and communication plan. Making sure the science is translated in way that is meaningful to the audience.
  • Review the team’s work as part of the product review process. Determining if science is translated well, they meet project requirements and NASA communication standards before additional review.
  • Participating in work group team meetings, keeping track of products in progress.
  • Present status updates to stakeholders as well as stakeholder and contract management.
  • Capture and track metrics and provide recommendations to stakeholders on how to adapt communications products based on that data.
  • Produce the weekly and monthly reports showing status of products, engagement or awareness results and sharing available metrics.
  • Attend HRP meetings and educational opportunities to learn more about the science and stay current with the research.
